Under the Helmet: Austin Kaut

January 13, 2017
One of the biggest moves the Florida Launch made this off-season was to re-sign goaltender Austin Kaut. The Penn State alum signed a three deal to return to the Launch through the 2019 season. On the wave of the big news, we talked to Kaut about everything from pro lacrosse to burning questions like "cookies or brownies?"

Quick facts:

Position: Goalie

Year turned pro: 2014

College: Penn State University

Birthday: January 14, 1992

Q&A:

How did you get your start in lacrosse?

My dad played lacrosse in high school. He got me interested when I was young.

What players did you watch growing up that you most wanted to play like?

Brian Dougherty. He brought a new style of play to the MLL.

Who is your lacrosse role model?

My lacrosse role model is my father. He taught me how to play the game. Growing up, I started as an attackman because he was. But in seventh grade our team needed a goalie so I stepped in (more like I was forced in because I was the slowest on the team). It worked out for the best.

What is your favorite memory of playing in a game?

Winning my high school league title senior year 4-3 in overtime.

What are your 2017 lacrosse goals?

My 2017 lacrosse goals consist of 2 things: Giving everything I have on and off the field for my teammates and coaches and win an MLL Championship.

What would you tell a young player that is just starting in lacrosse and asks you for advice?

Practice with your team is great work. But, to truly get better you need to practice when no one else is. Instead of playing video games or watching a movie, hit the wall 100 times with your right and left.

This or That!

Cookies or Brownies: Cookies

Dog or Cat: Dog

Hard mesh or Soft mesh: Hard mesh

Mario or Luigi: Mario

LeBron or MJ: MJ

Netflix or Hulu: Netflix

Xbox or Playstation: Xbox
